A newly constructed maternal and child health wing was commissioned at a general hospital in Abuja this week, adding over 80 beds and modern neonatal care equipment to support safer deliveries in the region.
Health officials said the expansion responds to rising demand and aims to reduce referral delays that have historically strained maternal health outcomes in the capital.
“Every mother deserves access to quality care close to home,” the hospital’s medical director said during the commissioning ceremony.
The wing includes a dedicated neonatal intensive care unit and a blood bank facility. Health workers say the upgrade should significantly cut waiting times for expectant mothers in the surrounding communities.
