A Lagos-based agritech startup has closed a new funding round to expand its platform connecting smallholder farmers directly with buyers, cutting out layers of middlemen that have long squeezed farmer margins.
The company says the capital will go toward expanding its logistics network and building out a mobile app that gives farmers real-time pricing information.
“Farmers have been underpaid for too long because they lack access to market information. We’re changing that,” the startup’s co-founder said in a statement.
The platform currently operates in five states and plans to expand to ten more by the end of the year, according to company officials.
