Volunteers gathered along a stretch of coastline this weekend for a large-scale beach cleanup organised by a local environmental advocacy group, collecting several tonnes of plastic waste and debris.
Organisers say the event is part of a broader campaign to raise awareness about plastic pollution and its impact on marine ecosystems and coastal communities.
“Every piece of plastic we pull from this beach is one less piece harming marine life,” the group’s coordinator said.
The organisation plans to hold quarterly cleanups going forward and is pushing for stronger local regulations on single-use plastics in coastal areas.
