The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation on Wednesday commissioned a new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor linking Ikorodu to the Lagos Island business district, part of a broader push to cut commute times across the state.

Officials said the 15-kilometre dedicated lane is expected to serve over 200,000 commuters daily once fully operational, easing pressure on the Third Mainland Bridge during peak hours.

“This corridor is about giving Lagosians their time back,” a ministry spokesperson said at the commissioning event. “We are targeting a 40 percent reduction in average travel time along this route.”

Transport unions welcomed the development but urged the state to address fare affordability and driver training before the service scales further. The corridor will initially run 120 buses, with plans to expand the fleet by year end.
